Screen and Design
The Winner Y Ultra blends
together aluminium,
glass, and plastic for its body. Adopting a candybar model, the Winner Y Ultra look a bit fancy for an
entry-level smartphone. Glass makes up the front of the body, where touchscreen
panel, front camera, speaker, and soft keys reside. The back cover that
protects its removable battery is made of plastic.
Evercoss seems
to make a bad choice in placing the buttons. Volume and power button can be
found on the right side of the device. That means that you will need to use both
of your hands to make a screenshot which can be done by pressing volume down
and power button at the same time. There are three soft keys found at the
bottom of the device’s bezel. They function as menu, home, and back buttons.
Evercoss Winner Y Ultra gets a 5-inch HQ IPS LCD
display which is well known for its ability in providing brilliant combination
of colors. Yet, it uses a hi-tech LCD, its resolution is only 854 x 480 pixels.
It seems too small for a 5-inch smartphone. The colors are quite sharp with
controllable brightness level, thanks to IPS
Technology. Sadly, no Gorilla Glass
or even Dragon Trail Glass implemented
to protect the touchscreen panel, so If you buy this phone, I suggest that you also
buy screen protector for protecting the screen.
Software and Processor
The Winner Y Ultra adopts Android Lollipop which
is kept original with no modification. It means that the user will get the pure
user-interface of Android Lollipop.
There are several bloatwares – pre-installed applications - found in the
device. Some of them are removable.
“Old,
not Obsolete”. That expression is appropriate to be used to express this
smartphone. Why? Its processor is an old 1.2
GHz Spreadtrum SC7371. It is a very standard processor for smartphones
nowadays. Luckily, this processor is supported with 2GB RAM, making this phone powerful
to run heavy apps and open many apps at the same time. For your gaming pleasure,
A Mali-400MP4 is ready to run any
games you like to play. In conclusion, The Winner
Y Ultra is capable to run apps fast and smooth.
Camera
For your photography pleasure, Evercoss Winner Y Ultra is equipped with
an 8-megapixel lens and LED flash. Well,
that’s a standard lens for a smartphone nowadays. Yet, the camera can take quite
good quality photos with minimum noises when there is enough light. Compared with
the camera lens of Asus Go, the
picture quality of the Winner Y Ultra
is likely the same.

Taken by the main camera (personal collection) |
As you can see, the picture taken by
this smartphone is good enough. The autofocus of this smartphone is not the
fastest, but it can detect the object perfectly. You can see the focus really
well. The blur of the unfocused object is not too much, making it look natural.
The weakness is the color which is not really sharp. But hey, at least the
camera can capture your instagramable – great to be posted on Instagram – picture.
Front camera is not the power of
this smartphone. So, if you love taking selfies, this smartphone cannot help
you for that. Its front camera has only 2-megapixel sensor. No autofocus, no
filters, no features for selfie purpose. Perhaps, Evercoss only provides the front camera for video chatting purpose.
Storage and Battery
The internal storage that you will
get is quite big. Evercoss Winner Y Ultra
has a huge 16GB internal storage. Plus, the storage can be expanded with an
sdcard up to 32GB. Well, you can whoa! Though, it has 16GB internal storage, the
storage which is available to users is only 13GB. Well, to me, that storage is
still huge for an entry-level smartphone.
The Winner Y Ultra is a high-performance Android smartphone with a bit more than standard battery
durability. It can last less than 10 hours in normal use. It is because the
device only adopts a 2,100 mAh battery. That battery is not really standard for
an entry-level smartphone. Compared with Asus
Go, Evercoss can standby longer
than Asus Go. Thanks to its battery which
is 50 mAh higher than Asus Go’s and
its screen resolution which is less than Asus
Go’s. Since this smartphone is not equipped with any QuickCharge feature, to make the battery get full capacity, you
will need to charge the battery for about 2 hours.
Conclusion
Evercoss Winner Y Ultra comes with great hardware at affordable price. The little-bit-higher-than-standard
camera of the device can take a good quality picture that can satisfy your photography
and instagramming pleasure. The internal storage is quite huge for a smartphone
under IDR 1,000,000. For a smartphone immigrant, The Winner Y Ultra is a good start to owned. It can give you the taste
of a high-performance smartphone at affordable price.
